Session 4. Leaving No One Behind: Sustainable Development Goals and Mine Action

General Information

Date:12 November 2018
Duration:1 hour and 30 minutes

The 2030 Agenda provides a structure for mine action to demonstrate, through the five mine action pillars, its catalytic and accelerating role in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets and in building resilience in mine-affected countries.

While SDGs are of a global nature, SDG nationalisation processes are opportunities for national mine action authorities to mainstream mine action into national development efforts, sectoral plans and country-specific UN development frameworks.

SDGs are expected to serve as the reference for development policies and financing and the 2030 Agenda calls for the global community to go beyond business as usual in planning, delivery, monitoring and reporting. However, the challenge ahead is in implementation.

This session aims to achieve the following objectives:

  1. Identify ways to improve participation of and inclusiveness for those at risk of being left behind
  2. Identify ways on diversifying and innovating mine action financing
  3. Identify possible partnerships to enable mine action deliver more impact within the SDGs

Format of the Session

The Co-Chairs are assigned to lead the discussion of the panel and each speaker is given seven to ten minutes of presentation time. Each panellist can talk about the context of one country or many countries in ASEAN. The presentation may be done in PowerPoint, pdf, or any other relevant format.
